About the Instructor

Nina Snyder is a Certified Legit Kits Instructor.  She retired to Idaho after a 30-year career in Law Enforcement a few years back and loves to spend her time sewing, swimming, writing patterns, making bags and helping others create great works of art.  During her first career, whatever the assignment, Nina always found a way to coach, train and teach the newer Deputies.  She loves to teach and help others become successful and has carried that into her second career, quilting.  Nina always enjoyed the precision in foundation paper piecing and found The Kracken pattern by Legit Kits. She had to make that quilt, its purple!  And then she was smitten with the Legit Kits approach and is sure you will be too!

Supply List (Please bring to the workshop):

  • Sewing machine (with straight stitch foot, power cord, and foot pedal)
  • Thread & Pre-wind 3-4 bobbins (I prefer Deco Bob 80wt. thread in colors that match your quilt)
  • Tweezers and snips or small scissors
  • If you prefer not to use your fabric rotary cutter to cut the paper pattern pieces, dedicated Paper cutter.
  • Pins, acorn glue, glue stick, binding clips, washi tape (choose your method or bring all and try them out)
  • Seam Ripper
  • Extra machine needles just in case!
  • Ruler for cutting- I like quilters select and the add ¼” ruler ( I use both)
  • Small cutting mat to use at your station, can be the cutterpilar light box with cutting mat if you have one
  • Mini iron (need one to share with your table mate-if you don’t have one let JK know so they can make sure there are enough in the classroom).

TO DO BEFORE CLASS :

  1. Purchase your Kit!  The pattern is your choice and if you already have a pattern great. If you need to purchase just the fabric pack to go with your kit, cool. Or if you want to purchase an entire kit (pattern and fabric) that is good as well.  Please use the code that JK provides to you upon registering for this class to purchase your kit of choice through Legit Kits or purchase a pattern/kit from one in stock at JKQuilts.  The code you will be provided to use on the LegitKits website is specific for JK Quilts and for this class.
  1. Starch and press fabric.  With the Legit Kits fabric kit, I do not take the stickers off: I simply put the fabric sticker side down on my ironing mat, spray starch and iron.  If you are worried the sticker identifying the fabric color will come off, then pin it on.  I refold my fabric, so it fits into a 8.5”x11” page protector but this is not necessary.  You organize your fabric how it makes sense to you, just bring it all to class.
  1. Make a copy of your pattern pieces!
  1. Here are some organizing ideas.  None are necessary prior to class, but some of you will ask and some of you will want to organize your fabric prior and that is okay too.
