Japanese Style Rice Pouch



Modern Japanese Rice Pouch
A modern take on the Japanese Komebukuro, a traditional pouch used in Japan to carry rice offerings to the temple during religious ceremonies,  or to hold gift destined for a close friend.  
This is a perfect project to use up all those extra scrap of fabric!
Materials:
Pattern
1/4 yd outside fabric or scraps to make up a 25" x 8" rectangle
1/4 yd lining fabric
(4) 3.25" x2.25" fabric pieces for drawstring tabs
additional fabric for applique pieces
2 yds cotton drawstring, twill ribbon, or fabric to make drawstring
1/2 yd SF101 fusible interfacing
Supplies:
Sewing Machine, thread, seam ripper
fabric scissors or rotary cutter/ruler
embroidery thread and needle
fabric pen, large safety pin
Homework:
Following cutting directions, cut lining fabric and interfacing.
