We will learn how to identify the main parts of the Featherweight and their function. We'll learn all the oiling points and when and how to oil the machine. We'll learn when and how to apply grease to the gears and motor. We'll learn about stitch formation and how to troubleshoot stitching problems. We'll learn to disassemble and reassemble the tension unit to clean and remove corrosion and burrs. We'll learn how to clean the hook assembly, remove stuck threads and prevent machine lock-ups. Also how to remove rough spots and deep scratches from the points critical for stitch formation. As time allows we'll learn how to adjust timing and fix other common problems.
We'll also learn about the tools necessary for working on our Featherweights and have the opportunity to purchase the tools and materials we need.
Please bring an old towel and an apron, your Featherweight, tools and attachments, a small flashlight, a notebook and a pencil. We have put together a kit that includes everything you'll need to maintain your Featherweight. The kit and individual supplies will be available for purchase at the class so if you don't already have tools and supplies don't worry, we'll have them available.
